After dinner at the hotel two days before our group bid each other güle güle (gew-LAY gew-LAY, goodbye), Emily and Courtney had tried to explain to Sidar the vast interconnectivity of Facebook.

He thought about it, and proclaimed that history would probably repeat itself, as in when the fire at Alexandria destroyed the ancient library. He suggested that one day all the computers might crash, and all the digital information of our age would be lost to time.

Then he grinned and left to rescue Gürsel the bus driver from a table of Americans, and together the two played a heated match of backgammon.

They were still playing when I left the card lobby for bed, and when I think of Sidar now, I imagine him there.
